The Archangel Uriel, allegedly the angel sent by God to expel Adam and Eve from the garden and to guard the tree of life with a flaming sword. I have translated this very literally, encasing the tree of life itself into Uriel's breastplate where he guards it eternally (this, of course, is my own interpretation and is not Biblically based). According to some stories Uriel is also the messenger to forewarned Noah of the great flood. Another legend has Uriel garding the young John the Baptist in the desert. I have decidedly made Uriel the most beautiful of the angels I have depicted, particularly because of Leonardo's famous depiction of Uriel in "The Virgin of the Rocks." That was the first image of Uriel that I saw and I really liked how beautifully he was depicted. I really enjoyed working on this one.

Definitely one of my personal favorite of the angels. My favorite part of this piece has to be the coloring. The shades and hue of yellow, red and black really gives the sense of flame and fall of Adam and Eve.
